Stewed Prunes In Orange Juice

Stewed prunes are simple and quick to make. Dish them up for breakfast, and eat as a snack or dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 250 grams (8.8 ounces) prunes, seeds removed
  • ¾ cup fresh orange juice
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 x strips of orange rind about 10 cm long
  • 1 piece (5cm / 2inches) of cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1-2 teaspoons white sugar - optional

Instructions
 

  • Place all the ingredients into a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer covered for about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and cool.
  • Serve the stewed prunes warm or cold with yogurt, cream, custard, or ice cream. Also good for breakfast cereals.
